NEOLITHIC CELT (AXE HEAD)

Price per Unit (piece): £50.00 (including 17.5 % tax)

This axe head or 'Celt' is more than 4000 years old. It originates from Algeria in North Africa (Sahara Desert). At this time the area was wwtter and partially forest, unlike todays conditions. The Neolithic or 'new' stone age people were responsible for new methods of stone technology, these included making objects for decorative purposes.  Also instead of using crude flaking tools to create cutting edges for axe heads, this Celt made by grinding and polishing a cutting edge.  This method proved more beneficial for chopping wood etc.  Also, stones of differing compositions could be used this way rather than just relying on flints and cherts.

The Neolithic people were also the first to give up the nomadic hunter/gatherer existence and settle into one place in order to farm the land.  Pottery was common at this time, yet the potters wheel had yet to be invented.  The Neolithic people were also responsible for domesticating animals and sowing crops.
