COMPLETE PSITTACOSAURUS SKELETON

Price per Unit (piece): £5 500.00 (including 17.5 % tax)

Yes, this is your very own opportunity to get a near complete dinosaur of your own! This specimen is contained within its natural matrix and has been exposed to the elements before being found. This said the bone is in great condition and has been professionally restored by a UK Dinosaur Museum. Paraloid has been used to harden the bones and the matrix has been implanted in a strong wooden crate surrounded by a plaster jacket (not that you would know from these pictures). The skeleton itself is nearly complete (95% plus) - as one rear leg bone still lays underneath the rear quarter. More information and pictures are available for serious enquiries (both pre and post restoration). The specimen measures aprox. 79 cm (31 inches) x 53 cm (21 inches) and contained within a larger crate etc.. The dinosaur, when alive, would have been over a metre in length (over 40 inches). This is getting towards an adult size for this dinosaur.

The item is heavy and is available for collection or delivery can be arranged - depending upon location.

Meaning - Psittacosaurus means 'Parrot lizard'
Described By - The type species is Psittacosaurus mongoliensis (Osborn, 1923).

Herbivore: It probably ate plants like cycads with its tough, hook-like beak.

Length - 80 cm to 2 m
Weight - 350 KG

Early Cretaceous Period

Psittacosaurus would walk on either it's 2 hind legs for periods of speed (probably for use evading predators) or on all 4 legs. It's arms were substantially shorter than it's hind legs.

  • P. mongoliensis

Remains from many individuals have been found.

  • Animalia
  • Vertebrata
  • Tetrapoda
  • Sauropsida
  • Archosauromorpha
  • Ornithodira
  • Dinosauria
  • Ornithischia
  • Ceratopsia
  • Psittacosaurus P.mongoliensis

Psittacosaurus was originally classified within Ornithopoda basically due to its bipedal locomotion. But Psittacosaurus was soon recognized as being closer to ceratopsids than ornithopods. Indeed, it represents a transitional phase from early, ornithopod-like ornithischians to the large, mostly quadrupedal ceratopsians (like Triceratops).

Please note that viewings can also be arranged for this dinosaur.....
